If basketball is a religion, we created its holy ground: a shuttered church turned basketball sanctuary for the the youth of Chicago located in the West Loop. The Church served as a safe haven in the city to reignite belief in the next generation of basketball players in Chicago and to help them chase their crazy hoop dreams through a one-of-a-kind elite training experience. 20 years ago, writer Peter Rock worked as a security guard at an art museum. While on the job, he entertained himself by making up stories for the photographs, paintings, and objects on display. Spells is a fragmentary novel in response to work of five of his favorite photographers, harkening back to that earlier project.
